Packing List

The Disney Programs Blog has suggested that the best packing lists are those which are done in a timely manner. Since I am SO FREAKING STOKED to get this show on the road, I figured why wouldn’t I start with the most fundamental prep I can. AKA a packing list. It’s obvious that this will be the most time consuming part of preparing for my DCP adventure. Just to clarify, this is MY packing list which means it will be 90% tailored to my own wardrobe.

  1. Professional wear: for traditions and casting. Traditions is the first few days of your disney college program experience. It’s where you learn (VERY in-depth) about the Walt Disney Company. It’s where you head to casting to set up your future work experience and get all the paperwork taken care of. And it’s where you get that magical blue-pass into the parks. Pack: tan/black dress with black cover up. Light tan cardigan. Black Pencil skirt/2 HM flowy shirts (black and white). Taupe heels. Black heels. 2 more dresses.
  2. Warm Clothes: mostly forgotten because HELLO, Florida. But it’s actually really important not to forget sweatshirts, sweatpants, sweaters, etc because it gets cold (usually at night or when it storms). And I mean really cold. I love having comfy clothes to lounge in at the apartment too. Pack: two sweatpants, yoga pants, 5 sweatshirts!
  3. Workout clothes: probably not going to happen, but its always good to get in the gym once a program 🙂 Pack: 2 yoga shorts, pink tank top, sports bras, running shoes, yoga mat.
  4. Rainy wear: let’s be honest, it rains mostly once a day in Orlando. No rain shoes. Pack: umbrella, rain jacket.
  5. Normal Clothes: To wear to parks and around the apartment. Pack: all shorts, all t-shirts, 2 pairs of sperry’s, a few pairs of sandals, summer dresses, jeans, underwear, socks, bras, black shoes.
  6. Non-clothes: there are things to remember to pack or buy down there that are not clothes at all.
    • Mattress pad (to buy)
    • sheets, pillows, comforter, etc
    • 5 towels, loofahs/washcloths
    • Makeup
    • hangers
    • shower things: curtain, mat, shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors, lotion, lush
    • bathroom things: curling iron, flat iron, blow dryer, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, toilet paper, contacts/solution, glasses
    • Kuerig, Toaster
    • scentsy
    • Food
    • gas
    • toilet paper
    • lunch box
    • cleaning supplies
    • Cell phone charger, laptop, camera, tv
    • pictures
    • pins
    • Passport, social security card, birth certificate, car insurance info

ACCEPTANCE!

As of 2pm on February 25, I am officially a Disney Cast Member (round TWO!) That’s right, I was accepted into the college program for the second time!!! And I got everything I asked for and more! I will be moving in June 13 (so I am considered Fall Advantage) and I will be Attractions. AHHH! I need everyone reading this to keep your fingers crossed that I get one of the three attractions I mentioned in my interview: Haunted Mansion (PLEASE!), Tower of Terror, or Pirates of the Caribbean! Knowing my luck I’ll be placed in parking though (please no, haha!) The thing I definitely have to remember is no matter where I am placed, it will always be a job and it is what you make it! And who you work with. 🙂

Marissa was accepted in the very first wave possible! And I sat around and cried until I got mine exactly 10 days after I interviewed. I hate to say it, but that wait wasn’t even close as bad as the first time I applied (basically months!) and then Marissa waited FOUR WEEKS! I don’t know how she did it! I was so impatient after 10 days. And then there is still people waiting to know their fate. Hopefully some Faith, Trust, & Pixie Dust is headed their way for an acceptance too!

I have already joined like nine Facebook groups (acceptance 2016, attractions 2016, 2 groups for my move in date (for roommates), and mas! I just like to feel like I am going to be there soon, instead of in 3 months! Wow. How am I supposed to wait 3 months to be in the happiest place on earth?! Oh right, watch all the Disney Movies!!

Keep checking back for more updates and a countdown until program!

108 Days guys! AH!ACCEPTANCE 2016

Post-Phone Interview

Holy moly! That was so surreal, I can’t believe it’s over. Of course, Terry (my interviewer) was amazing and asked all the right questions and I was very ready for them (hopefully not too rehearsed) but it was just plain amazing! I love Disney and everything they are as a company. And I want to be apart of that so bad! So now the waiting game begins! Come on Disney, give me that acceptance!

Pre-Phone Interview Jitters

To say I’m nervous, is an understatement. I don’t know why I am freaking out now because I have done this twice before. Just be yourself, Shelby. You got this! You are born to be a Cast Member (best pep talk ever, right!?) so then why am I a nervous wreck? Oh right because I want this soooo badly! Let’s go! One hour until my fated interview!

Another Side of Disney Side

This is a bit extensive but I did this exact same survey 2 years ago! This is just the 2016 remix version.

1. Favorite Disney movie?

This will forever be Beauty and the Beast! It’s a great love movie! And I love love.

2. Walt Disney World or Disneyland?
I love Disney. I truly loved the experience Walt Disney World gave me when I worked there! But I hold truly magical memories from Disneyland too (and hope to make more next January when I visit with some of my DCP roomies). But they both have their redeeming qualities that the other will never have. I like them both. The end.

3. Favorite Disney character? My favorite Disney character is Marie. Because I am a lady. But I also love Gus Gus!

4. The first Disney movie you remember seeing in the theatres? I honestly remember seeing Mulan in theaters with my best friend Lauren! We were 6! We went to McDonalds and got the toys too. It was the Dragon, Mushu!

5. What type of Disney item do you collect the most? (Pins, Vinylmation, dolls, etc.)

After my college program I came home with three lanyards (literally) full of pins. You could say I have a pin collecting problem. I also came home with a ton of telecasts thinking I didn’t save any of them through my program. I probably have 100 of those things.

6. Your favorite Disney song?

I love the Lion King Soundtrack! My favorite is probably “He Lives in You” from the second movie, I think! After my program, I have a soft spot for illumination music & pre-music; and also “One Little Spark” from Journey into Imagination with Figment.

7. Favorite attraction/ride at the parks? This is a tough one. So I will pick one from each “land” in Magic Kingdom and the 3 other parks 😉

Adventureland: Pirates of the Caribbean!

Frontierland: Splash Mountain

Fantasyland: it’s a small world & PhilharMagic

New Fantasyland: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Liberty Square: HAUNTED MANSION

Storybook Circus: Dumbo? I guess..

Tomorrowland: Buzz Lightyear & People Mover

Epcot: Test Track

Hollywood Studios: Tower of Terror

Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Everest & Kilimanjaro

8. What is your dream job at Disney? After being accepted into the College Program, I have definitely realized there is a con to every pro working at Disney. I will say the obvious, I would LOVE to be a Disney Princess, but then you must deal with the difficulties of your duty. 😉 I have recently fell in love with the idea of working for attractions and maybe, hopefully Haunted Mansion!

9. Who’s the park character you never want to miss meeting at the parks? Hmm, I am not a meet & greet person, I am more of a rides person. But I love the princesses, so how about them!

10. What’s your most treasured Disney item?

I have a Minnie Mouse dress from the Cruises 🙂 but I also consider my DCP memories a treasured Disney item, which is immaterial.

11. Which Disney voice actor would you most like to meet? Mufasa from the Lion King (James Earl Jones) & Timon from the Lion King (Nathan Lane) because they are both LEGENDS. Also, Yzma from The Emperors New Groove!! (Eartha Kitt) loved her!

12. Favorite Disney movie that’s not a classic/famous? (ex. Black Cauldron) Does Emperors New Groove count?? The Ultimate Christmas Present (Disney Channel Movie). I’ll Be Home for Christmas. The Santa Clause! Ah love their Christmas movies, so magical!

“These are a gift…probably from the cable company. We’re getting the Disney Channel now. Merry Christmas.”

13. If you could say anything to Walt Disney right now, what would it be? I would say thank you.

14. Your favorite snack to get at the parks? (Churros, Mickey’s Ice Cream Bars, etc.) Oh snap, I like the pretzels just because they are Mickey shaped, although they taste like a regular pretzel (and priced like a solid gold pretzel)! But my go-to snack is the strawberry fruit bars. They are on the cheaper side & delish!

15. Your favorite parade/show at the parks? I love the live stage shows! Beauty and the Beast is my favorite in Hollywood Studios! And does Philharmagic count?

16. Flounder, Sebastian, or Scuttle? Oh man. Scuttle

.

17. Your favorite Disney memory? Just being able to visit the parks with my grandparents countless times before they passed. My grandma went on every ride she could & LOVED to people watch. My grandpa was such a trooper and tried to go on the rides we liked also! I wish I had digital copies of my grandparents both at the park. Oh and the one time my grandpa accidentally dropped my grandma out of her wheel chair!!!

18. Do you have a favorite pair of Mickey ears? I like the headband ones! I have a christmas version from my program.

19. If you could, what “forgotten princess” would you add to the official lineup? Kusco! Just Kidding 😉 Charlotte La Bouff!

20. Your favorite princess dress/outfit? Merida & Pocahontas! Both the “most practical” But I have to say I love the Norwegian touch of Anna and Elsa.

21. Your favorite Disney soundtrack? The Lion King. but Frozen has grown on me. (Bleh I know.)

22. Genie, Abu, Carpet, Iago, or Rajah? Genie! I love Robin Williams!

23. Favorite restaurant at the parks? Hmmmmmm..tough one! I loved Be Our Guest! Holy moly that atmosphere is a dream come true for me. Eat in the West Wing if you can. It’s so immersive and it was quiet even though it was full.

24. How did you first discover the “magic” of Disney? My parents & grandparents loved Disney before I was even born! So I was raised into it!!

25. What attraction are you most likely to go to first when you’re at the parks? We have a system that is FOOLPROOF! My mother takes care of all the planning & we make it to everything we could ever wish to go on (sometimes more than twice!) and we go between Christmas and new year…aka the time NOT to go because it is way too crowded. We manage.

26. Your favorite “iconic” moment? (ex. Ariel on the rock, Aladdin finding the lamp, Rafiki lifting Simba, etc.) Not sure. I guess when the beast figures out he loves Belle? And when the dancing forks & plates come out 😉

27. What’s the saddest moment for you in any Disney film? Dumbo & his mama. I will never watch that movie again for this reason.

28. Best Disney kiss?

29. If you could live in any world from a Disney movie, which would you choose?

I think Toy Story! So many fun characters! Most of the princess movies have a villain that terrified me growing up, so I am not going to pick one of those!

30. Favorite Disney musical sequence based on spectacle/animation?

I’m not sure what this means. I guess like Broadway? The Lion King.

31. Which Disney character has the best sidekicks?

Mike Wazowski! Or Ham & Rex! Or Timon & Pumba! Ahhh to many!

32. If you could have a party themed around any Disney movie, which one would you pick? Finding Nemo or Up 🙂 just because I love pixar movie themes!

33. Are you the only one obsessed with Disney in your family? Or does it run in the family? Runs in the family. I am the least obsessed. And that is saying something!

34. Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, Cogsworth, or Chip? Lumiere & Cogsworth…not the same without both!

35. What are your top five favorite Disney blogs?

  1. shelbyshedrow.wordpress.com (my blog from my DCP), is this one allowed?
  2. hannahsdcp.blogspot.com
  3. https://tadasherz.wordpress.com/
  4. https://alittletrustandpixiedust.wordpress.com/
  5. https://racheldoesdisney.wordpress.com/
  6. https://alyssaworksforthemouse.wordpress.com/

36. If you could choose the plot/adaptation for the next Disney movie, what would it be? My life. Duh. I AM a Princess! Just Kidding 🙂 let’s see..penguins. Lots of penguins.

37. Favorite hotel at the parks?

Animal Kingdom Lodge!! For sure! This is the place to stay if you are going to be in your hotel room a lot. Don’t spend the money if you are just going to sleep there for 7 hours and leave. It is a place to enjoy and relax.

Also, Cinderella’s Castle Suite counts too right?

38. Which Disney movie do you turn to when you’re sad/upset?

Finding Nemo and Beauty and the Beast!

39. The Aladdin show or The Little Mermaid show?

This is a bad question because I think it means the stage show at the parks. I’ve only seen The Little Mermaid show, so lets go with that.

40. Do you plan to have/have you had your honeymoon at a Disney park?

Someday I will.

41. Favorite piece of Disney clothing/accessory to wear?

I absolutely love my Alex and Ani’s. They each show a piece of my Disney story.

42. Post a picture of yourself that’s Disney-related.

20140415-153730.jpg

43. Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck? Donald! He’s funny when he’s grumpy! But Mickey Mouse is my former boss…

44. What Disney movies/worlds would you like to see in the next Kingdom Hearts game? I have never played this game.

45. Which Disney movie, even if it’s not your favorite, will always have a special place in your heart and for what reason? Snow White. My grandma always told us that she went to see the movie when it was in theaters!!! Not many people could say that!

Top 3 Roles

So in my phone interview, it is almost certain that I will be asked which roles I am most interested in! This part I feel is important, because the rest of the interview will usually reflect what you answer here! Sometimes they ask you more questions in regard to this answer and then botta Bing botta boom, your 20 minutes is up! So here is the top 3 I hope to be considered for!

1. Attractions: I seriously see myself in attractions for this program! Do you ever get a strong feeling about something? This is my strong feeling. I would love to be considered for Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Tower of Terror, or even Great Movie Ride!

2. Merchandise: I was in Merch for my 2014 program and I loved it! It’s kind of my comfort zone (it’s for sure my comfort zone) because when you do something for 7 months, you feel super confident about it! But I’d love to be put outside of my comfort zone if at all possible!

3. Character Performer:let’s get this out of the way, everyone wants to be a princess. But I didn’t select this as an option because I was pretty discouraged when I auditioned and didn’t get accepted in 2012. But I would really like to be considered again. I think I could do this well. No matter who I would be friends with!

img_1059

3. Character Attendant: I am not sure if I could be assertive enough for this role, however I would love to be in the entertainment area and maybe continue to audition if I don’t get accepted this time around.
Obviously I don’t really have a say in where I am placed or what role I have (or if I’m even accepted) but it also never hurts to mention that you have an opinion and show that you took the time to research various roles that you care about! I think if I can’t be a princess, I will settle for just about anything else, as long as I’m at the happiest place on earth!
